LW antennas at Beidweiler for RTL are set to be demolished on November 6

2000 kW on 234 kHz, 3 antennas of 290 meters long.

The long-wave radio transmitters at Beidweiler are set to be demolished on November 6.
The long-awaited date for the demolition of the old radio transmission masts at Beidweiler has finally been announced. The three masts will be brought down using explosives on Friday, November 6, at 3:00 p.m. The operation is being carried out by the German company Liesegang, based in Hürth, Germany. The necessary preparations are already underway.
As the event has generated significant interest—not only in Junglinster but well beyond—RTL will broadcast the demolition live. The three transmission masts belong to Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE), a subsidiary of the RTL Group.
From 1972 until 1:00 a.m. on January 2, 2023, the masts were used to broadcast French-language RTL radio programs to France.
The Beidweiler radio transmitters consist of three identical 290-meter-tall masts, secured by guy wires. Unlike their predecessors in Junglinster—which are wider at the base—the Beidweiler masts are not self-supporting; instead, they are held upright by guy wires.
The date for the demolition of the steel transmission masts in Junglinster remains unknown. Built in the 1950s, they were originally 250 meters tall but were shortened in 1983 to their current height of 215 meters. Since the 1970s, these masts have served as a backup for those at Beidweiler.
